AdminHistoryThree district sub-committees of the Technical Education and Evening Classes Sub-Committee were appointed in January 1912 to consider in more detail the provision of technical education in the schools within the Birmingham district (north, east or south) to which they were appointed. The Technical Education and Evening Classes (North District) Sub-Committee comprised five members, and its main functions were to visit the technical institutes and evening classes, and to receive and consider reports by members and officials, within the area of its representative district. It was also to recommend to the Technical Education and Evening Classes Sub-Committee the opening of a new technical school in the district; to recommend the introduction of new subjects or classes in existing schools; to consider any matter relating to subjects of instruction; to select for appointment any head or assistant teachers for the schools in the district; and to consider the purchase of any special apparatus or equipment for those schools as appropriate. The sub-committee oversaw around nineteen schools in the area, including Aston Technical School and Handsworth Technical School. It is unclear when the sub-committee was disbanded.
