The minutes of the Cottage Homes and Residential Schools Sub-Committee include reports from the Sectional Sub-Committees and the Cottage Homes; reports from the Headmaster of Shawbury Approved School, formerly known as Shustoke Industrial School; reports from Summer Hill Receiving Homes (from 1935) and reports from Copeley Hill Hostel, Erdington (from 1935) which was used in connection with the Shawbury School.
All of the reports can include the names of children, ages, details of any disabilities, situation and, where relevant, criminal offence. Other details include the names of staff employed in the Cottage Homes, the Open Air Schools and Shawbury School and the names of staff recommended to the Special Schools Sub-Committee for appointment in the institutions. Rotas of ‘visitors’ to the institutions are included, along with their reports and medical officer or matron reports from institutions are included. Details of the war time evacuation of children appear from 1941.
The Sectional Sub-Committee minutes include reports of the Superintendent of each cottage home, with details on the running of the home, statistics of admission and discharge, details of named staff and information on individual children with names, ages, details of any disabilities and the situation (for example, placement for adoption, placed in service, boarded out). |
