The minute sequence beginning in volume BCC/1/BM/11/1/1 continues the sequence that ended in October 1933, minute volume BCC/1/BV/2/1/8, when the same sub-committee reported to the Maternity and Child Welfare Committee (see BCC/1/BV). The minutes include general information relating to the provision of maternity and child welfare facilities and centres in Birmingham (particularly on new housing estates); information relating to home visits made by Health Visitors employed by the department; reports of the sub-committee, committee secretary and Medical Officer of Health touching on all staffing, financial and supply matters relating to general maternity and childcare provision, including reports on individual centres; statistics relating to the birth rate, registration of births and infant mortality and illness (including specific institutions, i.e. Babies' Hospital); and information relating to the staffing, operation and maintenance of children's hospitals. The minutes for a meeting of 18 September 1935 includes a report of a tour made to observe professional practice in other parts of the United Kingdom by Ethel Cassie, M.D., P.D.H.
