| Description | The minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. These minutes are in the uniformly titled minute volumes. The minutes include information on the inspection of Infant Welfare Centres and hospitals; some reports relating to sick individual children and babies; details relating to surgical and medical procedures concerning the treatment of sick children and babies; statistical information relating to infant mortality rates in Birmingham; information relating to nursing and auxiliary staff; equipment and maintenance of buildings; some accounts and statements of income and expenditure; and related correspondence and papers. The minutes of a meeting of 4 October 1918 include a very detailed report on the proposed extension of maternity and infant welfare work in Birmingham previously detailed in minute 493, with a report of the Medical Officer of Health and a description of current service provision, systems of visitations by midwives and inspectors, and related information (see minutes 505 - 506 in BCC/1/BM/4/1/1). The later minutes include a large volume of information and reports concerning the proposed new Carnegie Welfare Centre at Hunters Road, Birmingham (see BCC/1/BM/4/1/2). |
