| Description | Some minutes indexed. The minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes are in the appropriately titled combined sub-committee minute volumes (see BCC/1/BM/14). The minutes include monthly returns for house inspections made in various Council wards, reports relating to the general provision of municipal repair programmes for working class housing and lists showing general mortality rates in Birmingham (particularly the central areas). The minutes of 13 September 1922 include a report (dated 22 September) relating to (A) the sanitary condition of slum property in Birmingham in the city compared to 1914, and (B) the prevalence of overcrowding, the report highlighting several extreme and anonymous cases of families living in chronically overcrowded housing and the effects insanitary buildings had on the lives and morale of tenants. |
