| Description | The surviving departmental wages books give registration number, names and occupations, wages, time worked, net amount of pay due (usually weekly or monthly), deductions, National Insurance contributions and other remarks. The volumes have been arranged according to an earlier departmental numbering scheme, and generally reflect the chronological order in which each register was compiled, apart from a few exceptions. Two volumes were not numbered, but have been catalogued at the beginning and end of the sequence to reflect the fact that they are the earliest and most recent surviving wages books in this sub series. |
