AdminHistoryIn October 1911, the two functions of the former Baths and Parks Committee (see BCC/1/AL) were split, resulting in the appointment of two separate committees. The Baths Committee continued to perform the duties of its predecessor with regard to the wash-houses, swimming and Turkish baths. The committee also began to hire bath buildings for a wider range of private and non-bathing purposes (such as dancing and gymnastic classes). In 1915, mixed and family bathing was allowed for the first time. By 1918, there were 15 swimming baths (4 of which were cottage baths), with 1.3 million recorded visits, bringing in an income of £15,500. By 1968, there were 21 swimming baths (three of which were cottage baths) attracting 3.5 million visits, bringing in an income of £220,500.

In 1972, the functions of the Baths Committee, along with those of the Parks, Libraries and Museum Committees were subsumed into the newly formed Leisure Services committee (BCC/1/DM). Therefore, for minutes of the Baths Committee post May 1972, please see BCC/1/DM.
