| AdminHistory | The Central Relief Sub-Committee was formed in January 1930 to co-ordinate and set the rules and scales of out-door relief centrally for all of the initial twelve Sectional Relief Sub-Committees. The sub-committee regularly revised and reviewed its payment rates and rules and regulations, and examined such issues as payments in kind for fuel and clothing. A minor sub-sub-committee also reported to this sub-committee. It was appointed in April 1933, and sat intermittently until January 1937. Its main function was to consider matters relating to relief scales implemented and the granting of unemployment assistance to people of Birmingham facing hardship as a result of poverty or unemployment. It later looked into matters relating to Birmingham's various Medical Districts, as well as allocation of general hardship allowances, boarding out and other areas (see BCC/1/CD/5/1/3 and 5 - 6). |
