| AdminHistory | Birmingham's fire service was as the Birmingham City Fire Brigade from 1879 - 1948, and after it was known as Birmingham City Fire and Ambulance Service. It originally fell under the jurisdiction of the Fire Brigade (subsequently Finance and Fire Brigade) Sub-Committee of the City Watch Committee (see BCC/1/AC/2), until a standing committee was formed to administer the fire brigade in 1940 (see BCC/1/CO/1 above). In 1974 the fire brigade came under the jursidiction of the West Midlands Fire Service for operational purposes. Politically, the service was overseen first by West Midlands County Council, 1974 - 1986, then West Midlands Fire and Civil Defence Authority. |
