AccessConditionsThe records of the Mental Health Sub-Committee contain confidential information on patients, including many sensitive individual case reports, as well as members of staff. The records have therefore been closed for 100 years in compliance with the Data Protection Act, 1998, and patient confidentiality guidelines.
AdminHistoryThis Sub-Committee was appointed in November 1947, and consisted of nine members. The sub-committee took over the remaining Council role regarding mental health, following the formation of the National Health Service in July 1948. The Mental Health Hospitals Committee (see BCC/1/AF) and the Mental Deficiency Act Committee (see BCC/1/BY) had been disestablished, with the transfer of most of their functions to the National Health Service. This Sub-Committee organised day-care centres and transportation for after-care patients.
