| AdminHistory | The Child Care Sub-Committee was formed in May 1952, and consisted of ten members. Its functions replaced those of the Reception Sub-Committee (see BCC 1/CT/4) and the Revision and Maintenance Sub-Committee (see BCC 1/CT/5), namely to examine reports on children and young persons committed to, or received into, the care of the committee to determine the kind of care appropriate to them, then to review the progress of children committee to Local Authority care. The sub-committee took responsibility for administering the Adoption Act, 1950, and for boarding-out children in care of the committee, returning children to their parents, and advising on children who might be suitable for emigration. This sub-committee remained in operation until the Local Authority Social Services Act, 1970, when the Children’s Committee and the Welfare Committee were merged into the new Social Services Committee (see BCC 1/DJ). |
