| AdminHistory | The House Improvement Sub-Committee was appointed in December 1950, and comprised of several members from the House Building Committee, the Municipal Bank, the Estates Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Deputy Town Clerk. The function of the sub-committee was to report to the main committees on aspects of house building, including the increased accommodation available through the conversion of existing houses (in wake of the Housing Act of 1949, which allowed government grants for home improvements), as well as house requisitioning and the provision of hostels. |
