There are two concurrently running minute sequences, each with gaps, comprising both the private meeting minutes (BCC/1/DE/1/1/1 - 3) and the public meeting minutes (BCC/1/DE/1/1/4). There is also a volume dated January 1974 to March 1976 (see BCC/1/DE/1/1/5) that contains both private and public meeting minutes. Public meetings were open for guests and the public to attend; private meetings were for appointed committee members only. The minutes include the reports of the committee Chairman regarding all aspects relating to the progress of the development scheme, including the County Roads Programme, finances, staffing, land use, allocation of leases (commercial, industrial and residential), housing requirements, schedules of lettings and contracts. There are also 'Urgent Business Reports' submitted by the Estates Committee and various reports and associated papers of the City Estates Officer. Many of these reports include descriptions of proposed and finished commercial, industrial and residential units which formed part of the scheme. The minutes also contain interleaved reports from other local authorities regarding challenges posed by their own redevelopment schemes for 'new towns'. |
