| Description | The minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. Minute volume BCC/1/FB/1/1/1 is not indexed, and is entitled 'Birmingham Hospitals Council'. Minute volumes BCC/1/FB/1/1/2 - 5 are indexed and comprise dated volumes entitled 'Birmingham Hospitals Council & Committees'. The minutes dated March 1919 - April 1925 have not been numbered, and there are no committee minutes for the years May 1925 - March 1936. After this they begin in a numbered sequence and continue until March 1945. The minutes include a printed copy of a recommendation of 5 March 1919 (dated 14 March) on the need to increase voluntary subscriptions to Birmingham hospitals. There are various printed reports, surveys and related correspondence and papers interleaved with the minutes concerning the work of the committee and the need to improve cooperation between the various hospitals. The minutes covering the Second World War (1939 - 1945) include some reports and related information on the impact of war and post-war reconstruction and planning issues on Birmingham hospitals (see BCC/1/FB/1/1/5). |
