DescriptionVolumes in this series contain a record of boys being admitted and discharged from Forhill House Remand Home and Forhill House Observation and Assessment Centre. Volumes are in order of admission date.

In early volumes in this series it can be seen that although most of the boys housed at Forhill came from Birmingham and its surrounding local authorities, some children were referred there from as far afield as Leeds, Bradford, and East Grinstead. By the 1970s, however, the vast majority of boys at Forhill were from Birmingham.

Boys were referred to Forhill by a number of agencies, including the police, Birmingham Juvenile Court, and the social services department. From these registers it can be seen that those referred by the courts tended to remain there for at least a week, sometimes several weeks, on remand, while those referred by the police and social services were often only there overnight (usually in cases of absconding or minor offences such as being drunk and disorderly).
