| Description | Artist unknown, numbered '20' in pencil. The plan depicts a main view of the casket, with a detail of the lid surmounted by the masks of tragedy and comedy, and an end elevation denoting the position of a proposed plaque containing an enamel painting of the Repertory Theatre to match the view of Stratford Theatre on the opposite end. The casket was presented to Sir Barry Jackson by the Alderman J.R. Balmer, Lord Mayor of Birmingham, on being granted the Freedom of the City of Birmingham on 16 April 1955 (For more information about the presentation, see B COL 78 Newspaper Cuttings: Birmingham Biography, Vol. 45, 1954-1955, pp. 213-19, kept on open shelves in Heritage Research Area, Floor 4, Library of Birmingham). |
