| AdminHistory | Birmingham has had an Information Department since 1945, which would originally have taken its remit from the Information Sub-Committee, which reported to the General Purposes Committee (for minutes of this Information Sub-Committee which oversaw the work of this department prior to 1974 see record series BCC/1/AG/27).
The Marketing and Communications Division or Public Affairs and Communications Division of Birmingham City Council is currently (as of 2008) located in the Council House. The division is made up of several offices, namely the Regional, European and International Division; Corporate Marketing and Promotions; Corporate Publications Team; Corporate Graphic Design Team; Corporate Media Team; Birmingham News Room.
The division is supported by an administration team, and works with other directorates, organisations and individual clients to offer a one-stop shop for all media strategies, communications plans, design and copyrighting services, sponsorship and marketing expertise.
The material in this series dates from before the Information Department was founded, and the surviving records have been kept together regardless of whether the material dates from before the founding of the departments responsible for the management of publicity and public relations for the convenience of researchers and members of staff. |
