A translation of Horace's "Ars poetica"; With an additional title page, engraved, signed "W.M. sculpsit" (i.e. William Marshall), with imprint "London. Printed for John Benson. 1640". Variant 1: this imprint reads "London. Printed for J. Benson and are sold by W. Ley at Paules-Chayne. 1640"; "Ben: Ionson's execration against Vulcan", "The masque of the gypsies", and "Epigrams to severall noble personages in this kingdome" each have separate dated title page; pagination and register are continuous. "Vulcan" and "Epigrams" are reprinted from "Ben: Jonsons execratio against Vulcan", 1640.; The first leaf and the last leaf are blank; the second bears an imprimatur.; D6-10 and E5-11 are cancelled by gatherings d[sup]1[sup]2 and e[sup]1[sup]2 respectively. Variant 2: cancellanda present.; A. Crooke's name supplied from Pforzheimer Catalogue, no. 548.; Parts of this were formerly also STC 14777a and STC 14765.; Imprimatur on A2 is signed by M.
