| Description | The Finance Committee was established by the Board of Guardians in 1854 'for the purpose of examining and certifying accounts previous to payment by the Board' (see GP AS/2/1/6), and initially comprised 4 Guardians. Meeting every 2-3 weeks, the committee also examined the accounts and ledgers of the paid workhouse officials.
The surviving records date from the end of the nineteenth century up until the unification of the Aston, King's Norton and Birmingham Unions in 1912. These contain details of all monies received and expended by the Union, including salaries paid to workhouse officials, and supplies bought by the workhouse. The volumes have only very minimal indexing. |
