| Description | The financial statement was a statutory document, a return made by the Union in accordance with the District Auditors Act of 1879, and following a Local Government Board Order of 1890. The volumes contain pre-printed forms, on which the clerk would write details of the Union's income and expenditure, both including and excluding any loans. The accounts cover similar areas to the ledgers, giving details on all incomes to the Union - from individual parishes and the overseers themselves, further grants from the local council for the upkeep of teachers, the union officers and the mentally ill, and from relatives of Workhouse inmates. On the debit side, the union's expenditure both within and outside of the Workhouse is noted in detail. The returns were made half-yearly, in March and September.
The volumes also contain pages set aside for any income or expenditure made for the purposes of education and school attendance - however, these have been left blank. |
