| Description | These volumes contain the orders sent out by the central authority to the Birmingham Board of Guardians, orders that were meant both specifically for that Union, and those which were more wide-ranging. The orders date from 1837, and as well as detailing the precise role of the Guardians and the paid officials within the Union, the orders also cover various topics such as alterations to the workhouse, the classification of the poor within the workhouse, and the regulation of elections for Guardians. GP B/1/1/2 contains a single order, also found in GP B/1/1/1, relating to the management of the workhouse, and the officials employed within the union. The volumes are not indexed. |
