| Description | Along with the Orders themselves, the Union regularly received correspondence and circulars from the Local Government Board and its predecessors. As with the Orders, the letters applied to both Birmingham alone and a wider number of Unions. Often, they act as a confirmation of any decision the Guardians had made, and which required central government approval - for example, the appointment of a new Union official, or a major capital purchase by the Workhouse. Many of the letters are those that accompanied the Government Orders, and can therefore be related to those documents in GP B/1/1/1-7. The volumes are not indexed. |
