| Description | It is not clear when the Finance committee was founded, but the earliest report made by it to the Board of Guardians was in January 1843 (see GP B/2/1/4). At this point it was referred to as the Finance and Audit committee - previously, since October 1841, it had been called the Auditing committee - but by 1847, it had become the Finance committee, reporting regularly to the Board of Guardians on all financial matters relating to the Union. The minutes contain details on the amounts received from the collection of rates, along with the expenditure made both for indoor and outdoor relief.
GP B/2/2/2/1 contains the minutes of both the relief committee and the finance committee, although the reason for this is unclear. This may have been because of the close links between the two committees, with the relief committee deciding on the exact levels of relief given in each case, and the finance committee overseeing the Union's income and expenditure. A volume of Relief committee minutes, which predate the Finance committee, also survives, and is listed at GP B/2/6/1. Unless stated otherwise, these volumes are not indexed. |
