TitleWorkhouse Enquiry sub-committee report
LevelSub Series
Date1877
DescriptionThe Workhouse Enquiry sub-committee was formed in 1877, under the authority of the Visiting and General Purposes committee. Consisting of six Guardians, it was the sub-committee's job to 'take into consideration the Medical and Nursing arrangements and the duties and efficiency of all the Officers of the Workhouse.' In doing so, the sub-committee examined and questioned each of the union's officers in turn, including the workhouse master and matron, medical officers and nurses. These interviews are included within the minutes, and give an interesting portrait of life in the union during this period. The volume is indexed.
