| Description | The Infirmary sub-committee was founded in July 1882, under the authority of the Visiting and General Purposes committee. Consisting of five Guardians, it was the sub-committee's job to 'take charge of the Medical Administration of the Workhouse, to visit the wards at any time, to receive reports from the Master, the Medical Officers, the Dispenser, and the Superintendent of Nurses, to examine all books and records connected with that Department, and report thereon from time to time to this [Visiting and General Purposes] committee' (see GP B/2/4/1/1). The committee continued to be active until 1888, by which point the Union had built a separate infirmary. The sub-committee's duties were then taken over by the newly formed Infirmary Management Committee (see GP B/2/4/4, below).
The volumes contain details on all of the sub-committee's responsibilities listed above, along with the names of those Guardians present at each meeting. The volumes are not indexed. |
