TitleRevision sub-committee
LevelSub Series
Date1880 - 1912
DescriptionIt is unclear when the Revision sub-committee was founded, but from the surviving minutes we are able to tell that it was formed under the auspices of the Visiting and General Purposes committee. Its purpose was similar to Aston Union's Removal and Revision committee (see GP/AS/2/7/1-2) in that it attempted to lessen the burden on the rate-payer by regularly reviewing cases of those receiving poor relief to see if such payments were still necessary. Often, the committee would attempt to make families provide help for pauper relatives, or would issue warrants for the capture of errant fathers who neglected to support their wives and children. The committee would also attempt to single out those paupers who were the responsibility of other Unions, and charge their relief to them (see also GP B/3/6 for copies of the Union's non-settled poor ledgers for the period 1845-1861, which lists those paupers who were the responsibility of another Union).

The minutes contain details on all of those roles outlined above, along with the numbers of paupers examined at each weekly meeting. Orders from the Visiting and General Purposes committee are also included. The volumes are not indexed.
