TitleEstate and Law Committee
LevelSub Series
Date1841 - 1848
DescriptionIt is unclear when the Estate and Law committee was founded, but its first recorded meeting was on the 9 July 1841. Its responsibilities appear to be very similar to those of the Estate committee, whilst also having something in common with the Law committee, the minutes of which do not survive. From the reports of the Law committee that are present within the Board of Guardians minutes, it appears to have dealt with the issuing of orders for the removal of paupers registered in another Union, whilst also keeping abreast of changes in legislation by Parliament.

There are no references to the Estate and Law committee being founded in the Board of Guardians minute book for 1841, so it may very well have been a continuation of the Estate committee. However, this is unclear and accordingly this minute book has been catalogued separately.

The minutes contain details on the properties owned by the Union, along with any sales or purchases of land carried by the Guardians. Along with these duties, the committee dealt with the roles of the Law committee outlined above.
