Details of the negotiations between unions regarding where individual paupers were chargeable to form a frequent part of the Board of Guardians' minutes, in practice, the Union in which the paupers resided would pay for their maintenance, and claim it back from the Birmingham Guardians at a later stage.
The volumes are arranged alphabetically, according to the name of the union. The names of individual paupers are also given, along with the amounts paid to other unions for their upkeep. Volume GP B/3/5/2 is particularly badly damaged - only entries from Derby onwards survive - and particularly fragile. |
