| Description | In response to a Local Government Board Order, each Union was required to forward regular returns to the central authority containing the numbers of those receiving relief, the figures being entered onto two pre-printed forms.
Form 'A' was a weekly count of those receiving both outdoor and indoor relief. Each entry begins with information regarding the Board, namely the date of the last meeting, the number of Guardians present, the name of the Chairman, the date of the next Board meeting, and the current Treasurer's balance. The figures themselves are broken down into the able- and non-able-bodied, children, vagrants and the insane. Also included are the names of the relieving officers for each district, and the number of those receiving outdoor relief within them.
Form 'B' contains less detailed information. Again, it was returned weekly, but the figures excluded vagrants and those maintained in asylums. Those paupers included in the count were further divided into able-bodied adults, non-able-bodied adults, and children. |
