DescriptionThis box contains a number of apprenticeship indentures, made between the Guardians and various tradesmen in and around Birmingham, whereby pauper children would be taken into their care and taught a trade. The indentures are largely printed and therefore follow a standard format. Basic biographical details about the child (name, age and parentage) are given, along with information on the tradesmen, his trade and address. The indentures are signed by the craftsman, the apprentice and the clerk to the Guardians. The indentures are not indexed.

Further information regarding the apprenticeship of pauper children can be found in the Aston Union collection, at GP/AS/11/4/1.
