| Description | In October 1856, the Board of Guardians commissioned the clerk to carry out a survey in order 'to ascertain the number of Officers and Servants with the amount of their respective salaries, engaged in the several Workhouses in England and Wales built for the accommodation of One thousand Inmates and upwards, and submit the same to this Board.' (See GP B/2/1/18.) The results of the survey can be found in this volume, which contains information on the salaries of those officials employed by the Bethnal Green, City of London, Clifton, Greenwich, Lambeth, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Marylebone Street, Nottingham, Portsea Island and Birmingham Unions. The volume is not indexed. |
