TitleDispensary and Vaccination Committee
LevelSub Series
Date1874 - 1879
DescriptionIt is unclear when the Dispensary and Vaccination committee was founded, although as with the Aston and King's Norton Unions, it was probably created in response to the 1871 Vaccination Amendment Act, which required all Unions to employ a Vaccination Officer (see GP AS/29 and GP KN/29). There may also be some connection between this committee and the Central Relief and Dispensary committee (see GP B/2/6/2), but what this relationship may have been is uncertain. - The committee dealt with all issues relating to the Union's programme of vaccination, including the employment of staff to carry it out, and the issuing of notices to those parents who refused to have their children vaccinated. The committee also appointed visitors, who acted in much the same way as the workhouse visitors in inspecting the conditions and premises under which vaccinations were carried out. The volumes are not indexed.
