| Description | Following the 1862 Union Assessment Committee Act, Guardians were required to set up a committee to inspect the Overseers' Poor Rate assessment and, if necessary, order a new valuation. In the wake of the act, the setting of the poor rate also became open to public inspection and appeal - this volume is a result of this process. It contains the names of those ratepayers appealing against the decision, along with a description of the property concerned, its current value (upon which the poor rate was based), and any changes made to it. In some cases, further remarks relating to each appeal are given which describe in more detail the Guardians' decisions. The volume is not indexed. |
