DescriptionPart of the Master's job was to keep the various account books relating to the workhouse's income and expenditure. As well as records relating to the work done by inmates (which often generated an income), the main series of accounts would be those relating to the provisions required for feeding the inmates. Separate volumes relating to alcohol consumption (normally strictly regulated by the medical officer) and special diets might also be kept.
