TitleAdmission and discharge of casual paupers register
LevelItem
Date1901
DescriptionThis volume contains information on those casual paupers entering and leaving the casual wards of Selly Oak workhouse. Along with the name of the workhouse Master and the date and time of admission, the pre-printed forms detail the name of each pauper, their age and occupation, the class of pauper (whether man, woman or child), and where they slept the preceding night. Following on from this, the form gives the hour at which the pauper was discharged, and describes the work done by them during their stay. If this was not done, reasons for its non-completion are given. Finally, the pauper's eventual destination after leaving the workhouse is given, along with any other comments. Most commonly, these refer to the punishment meted out to paupers unwilling to carry out the task assigned to them. From April 1901, at the end of every week, the total number of paupers admitted (divided into men, women and children) is given, along with those detained in the workhouse. The volume is not indexed.
