| Description | The volume gives a detailed picture of the nature of Jones & Clark's business, which is described in the history of the firm (MS 1056/227). A large proportion of the clients were the owners of country houses, and the volume gives considerable insight into the country house building process in the early 19th century. The orders are mainly for ornamental and functional glasshouses, and for prefabricated glazing units such as skylights, fanlights, and bay windows. Each entry contains a detailed specification and usually a sketch of the article concerned, although the number of sketches gradually declines. Most orders were apparently made up to suit the client's requirements, rather than being supplied from a stock range. |
