Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The ICA was established as the Iraqi Community Club in Birmingham. The ICA aims to 1) provide voluntary services to the dispersed Iraqi community through a centralised organisation in Birmingham, 2) advise residents in general and new immigrants on employment, housing, residence, education and training, 3) provide welfare services for many groups of the community such as women, children, elderly and handicapped, 4) help and rehabilitate refugees in Birmingham, 5) provide mother tongue teaching to children and English language to adults to supplement their formal education, 6) organise social activities and provide recreational facilities which are specific to the Iraqi culture, and 7) sustain the Iraqi traditions and culture towards a constructive integration with the British society.
