Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The RSVP was established in 1993 as the Birmingham Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre (RSACC). The project exists to provide a professional, free and confidential counselling and support service to people affected by the experience of sexual violence including rape, sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse. RSVP aims to offer, 1) comprehensive information and support to people affected by sexual violence, 2) face to face counselling to individuals in need of either information crisis intervention or more therapeutic involvement offered by an on-going counselling, 3) immediate practical and emotional support to people experiencing adult rape and sexual assault, 4) support to partners and/or family members via facilitated groups and individual work, 5) a flexible service which is user-led, and tailored to meet the individual needs of clients, and 6) work that encourages and promotes awareness and discussion about rape and sexual assault and child sex abuse both professional communities and in the wider community. Nature of support: In 1995 the Trust approved three annual grants of £15,500 towards the running costs of the RSVP volunteer training project.
