Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust, Gender Programme. Applicant overview: The WHC was established to empower women in widening their horizons to develop both themselves and their community. WHC has the specific aims of to, 1) empower women, 2) raise awareness to enable a broader understanding of issues and opportunities, 3) lessen the social isolation faced by women, 4) develop women's confidence in their abilities, 5) develop skills as a step to gaining independence, and 6) provide a safe and supportive environment in which women can achieve the above aims. It's objectives are to, 1) provide training, 2) provide a comprehensive advice service, 3) give counselling and support, 4) develop self help groups, 5) provide language support, and 6) undertake development and outreach work to ensure the WHC understands and responds to women's needs. WHC became a registered charity in 1995. Nature of support: On the advice of Gender Programme Relevant Trustees the Trust agreed to a three year grant to the WHC at £20,500 per annum.
