DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, plans, agendas, leaflets, agendas, project proposals and funding requests relating to Cadbury Trusts support for Selly Oak Colleges. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Paul S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The Selly Oak Colleges are a federation of eight autonomous institutions, each with its own governing body, principal and staff, and each having its own special ethos. In 1922 five foundation colleges covenanted together to form the federation - these were Woodbrooke (Quaker studies, international affairs, social studies), Fircroft (adult education, sociology, economics, politics etc.), Westhill (College of Education: teacher training, youth and community leadership), Kingsmead (Methodist missionary training) and Carey Hill (missionary training for women, now federated with St. Andrews College to form St. Andrews Hall). To these original five four others have been added, Overdale (theological studies), The College of the Ascension (Anglican missionary training), Avoncroft (residential short courses in liberal studies and staff training for local government officers) and St. Andrews College (missionary training for men and women of a number of denominations). Nature of support: In 1967 the Trust offered £50,000 over an unspecified number of years to Selly Oak Colleges. Many small grants after 1967 seem to have come from this allocated sum. In 1979 the Trust made a grant of £1,000 to the Selly Oak Colleges Play Group. A number of small grants were also made to facilitate student enrolment at various colleges. In 1981 £1,000 was allocated to Selly Oak College Library. In 1984 the Paul S. Cadbury Trust made a grant of £500 towards the travel costs of a member of Selly Oak Colleges' staff. Minutes: B&GSCT 3932, B&GSCT 4075, B&GSCT 4930, B&GSCT 5195, B&GSCT 5891, PSCT 361. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered '4/8'.
