His research in this capacity and beyond relates closely to new thinking in social policy circles. In 1986 Donnison approached the Trust for support during a period of sabbatical allowing him to write a book on 'the radical tradition' with the theme of reconnecting the debate about moral values and the debate about action, and to recover and reinterpret the radical tradition, growing out of the that connection. Nature of support: In 1986 the Trust approved two annual grants of £6,000 towards sabbatical costs. A further small travel grant of £350 was approved in 1988.
