| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, reports, copies of published material, leaflets and funding requests related to marriage organisations including the Birmingham Marriage Guidance Council (BMGC). Funding source(s): Paul S. Cadbury Trust, Southfield Trust. Applicant overview: The BMGC was registered as a charity in 1963. It aims to act as a centre for information and ideas and to collect all available data relating to the safeguarding of marriage and the family unit, the building up of physical, mental and spiritual harmony in marriage and making this knowledge available to all interested persons by advice or other means. The Coventry Family Conciliation Service (CFCS) is a voluntary organisation setup in 1981 to assist couples to settle disputes through the use of qualified social workers as conciliators. Nature of support: The Paul S. Cadbury Trust provided the BMGC with £500 to assist with moving costs in 1982. In 1983 the Southfield Trust made a bridging grant of £2,000 for the CFCS to help that organisation through a difficult financial period. The Paul S. Cadbury Trust also made two small grants to the Worcestershire Marriage Guidance Council towards the cost of new premises. Minutes: B&GSCT 5752, PSCT 243, PSCT 264, PSCT 305, ST 29/82, ST 37/83. Notes: The Trusts involved in funding marriage related organisations did so on an ad-hoc basis on the agreement that marriage issues should not be added as a further portfolio.
