DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, payments summary, accounts, leaflets, annual reports and funding requests relating to Dodford Children's Holiday Farm (DCHF). Funding source(s): Paul S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: Post-war school Medical Officer, Dr Dorothy Beaumont saw many Birmingham children who lived in overcrowded slums in polluted areas, who were poorly nourished and whose health suffered as a result. Her vision was to give those children the opportunity to get a ‘breath of fresh air’ – she fervently believed they would benefit physically, emotionally and mentally from a stay in the countryside. In 1950 she founded Dodford Children’s Holiday Farm, alongside Mrs Lucy Cadbury, a benefactor. The first children arrived at the Farm in 1951. At Dodford children can run around and play in plenty of open space, in a relaxed atmosphere, and help to feed and look after the animals. Today, Dodford Children’s Holiday Farm works with schools, social workers, health visitors and other referral agencies, to give children from deprived areas that much needed break and a ‘breath of fresh air’. Nature of support: In 1981 the Paul S. Cadbury Trust approved a grant of £100 to DCHF. In 1982 a subscription of £25 per year was taken out for three years. Minutes: PSCT 169, PSCT 213. Notes: Jayne Cadbury was secretary of the DCHF in 1982. File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered 'EA/6/11'.
