| Description | This volume is a minute book and contains the minutes of the meetings of 'the subscribers to the charity school'. The book deals with the very beginnings of the Blue Coat School from before the school even had a building. The first page contains a memorandum, instructing Sam Avery 'to build a paire of buildings adjoining to St. Philips church yard in Birmingham... for the schooling and education of poor children in Birmingham'. The rear of the volume contains a list of the names of subscribers to the school. Also at the rear of this volume are the signatures, or marks, of people who have 'resigned' their children to the care of the school. |
