| Description | This series follows on from the series of rough day books, MS 175A/4/3/8. From 1895 onwards the rough day books are no longer rough and are the main sequence of day books including summaries of sales. Cross reference to the glass sales ledgers appear in these volumes. These cross references can be explained using an example entry from the glass sales day books from September 10 1910. The work carried out in the example relates to the Church Glass and Decoration Company of New York from page 233 of the Glass Sales Day Book which covers the period 1908 to 1911. In the margin the number 631 is found. This number is the page in the glass sales ledger in which more information on the work being carried out can be found. The volume of the sales ledger is not provided in the Sales Day Book entry but it is easy to find which volume is needed, as the ledger which covers the date period in which the day sales entry appears is the ledger which needs to be consulted. The number enclosed in a diamond, which in the case of the example is 56, refers to the stained glass cost sheet where more information can be found on a particular order. Close to the title of the sales day book entry other numbers appear which make reference to other day sales book entries. In the case of the example, the number 228 , to the left of Church Glass and Decoration Company of New York refers to the page within the same volume where a previous reference to the Church Glass and Decoration Company is made. The number to the right of the entry title, which in the case of the example is 236 , refers to the page number where the next entry referring to the Church Glass and Decoration Company of New York can be found within the same Glass Sales Day Book. |
