| Description | The metal sales day books include information on metal work the company has carried out. Details include: the name of the recipient; for what project/building; details of work being carried out and the date of the entry into the day book. The sales day books also note the type of work carried out such as repolishing and how much the work cost. The sales day books make reference to the metal sales ledgers (see MS 175/A/3/3). The number in the margin, noted before the name of the correspondent/project refers to the folio in the relevant metal sales ledger where more information on a specific order can be traced; for example; folio 110 of metal sales day book 1861 - 1863 has an entry relating to St Mary's Convent, Handsworth from 1861. In the margin, a number 8 is present. The number 8 refers to folio 8 of the metal sales ledger which covers the year of 1861, which is Metal Sales Ledger 1860 -1862. The sales ledger will include further information on the work carried out on St Mary's Convent in Handsworth. |
