| Description | Indexed volumes of letters from the USA branch of John Hardman Company. Letters are handwritten or typed. The Hardman Company’s operations in the USA developed as architects influenced by Pugin’s Gothic Revival style immigrated to the USA in the mid 19th century. The Centennial Exhibition of 1876 in Philadelphia exposed Hardman’s to the US clergy and gradually orders for Hardman’s glass increased towards the end of the 19th century. Most of Harman’s USA work was concentrated in the East of the country where there was a strong Catholic presence. |
