| Description | Annual Convention and Youth Convention programmes from the United Church of God, Austin Road, Handsworth, Birmingham. This church is the one attended by both Vanley Burke's mother and grandmother, who were both active members of the congregtion and are listed in the programmes. Some of the original artwork on the programme covers was done by Vanley Burke's brother. The Church was founded in 1963, and this collection includes the programme for the church's silver jubilee convention in 1988. The programmes were self published by the church and then sold to the attendees. They list the names of people actively involved in church life, such as ushers and song leaders among others. This church, and the congregation attending it, is the main one photographed by Vanley Burke. Some of the programmes are annotated with extracts from the bible, recipes, hymns, telephone numbers etc. The collection also includes some drafts of the design of some of the programmes, as well as the final versions. |
