| Description | A selection of promotional material, including flyers and posters for black music club nights in and around the West Midlands, mainly Birmingham, geared towards and mainly supported by the African and Caribbean communities. The events mainly focus on Reggae, Dancehall, R&B, Hip Hop, and some are Caribbean Soca music nights. The older events include Disco music. There are some "singles nights" and "dating" events and promotion, as well as a couple of promotional items for black fashion shows. There are also many flyers for nights that focus on African music, Salsa and Latin. Many of the events are held in the same popular local venues, such as; F.C.F. Social Club on Soho Road, Ruskin Hall in Aston, White Pearl Suite in the City Centre, The Hummingbird and Porsche Nightclub, as well as venues such as G2 wine bar and The Drum in Aston. Many of the events flyers also share some popular "Sound Systems", both locally and international, as well as popular local "DJs", such as; 'Luv Injection', 'Wassiffa', Jamaica's 'Stone Love Family', DJs from popular local pirate radio station, 'Sting Fm', and 'PCRL'. One of the featured sound systems in the file, 'Stereo Exclusive', was ran by Burke's uncle, Rupert Burke. The 4 flyers for the relevant events are dated from July 1990 - December 1990. |
