| Description | Publications, promotional material, business papers and correspondence by and about black and Asian arts groups, organisations, festivals and exhibitions regionally, nationally and internationally. The majority of the material dates from the 1980s and 1990s and relates to the West Midlands and Birmingham. The festivals include 'Africa 95', Mirpuri week and 'Entertaining Women'. Arts events organised by and for specific groups such as women or black communities are represented by posters, flyers and other promotional material. Organisations set up as support and development networks for black arts (regionally and nationally) have had some of their papers collected by Burke, often in his capacity as a member of various panels and committees, and so in this section minutes of meetings, action plans and other such business papers are included. This section includes some papers relating to the Arts Council England, West Midlands Arts and West Midlands Ethnic Minority Arts Advisory Service. Included in these papers is material about the development of a black arts centre for Birmingham on the site of the former Aston Hippodrome, this is now known as 'The Drum' and this section of the catalogue is expected to expand with future accessions. This section is arranged as follows: /1 Festivals. /2 Community and awareness-raising arts groups and events. /3 Other arts organisations and venues. /4 Publications. /5 Listings. /6 Workshops, seminars and conferences. /7 Commissions. /8 Other Events. |
